Trip Report

Nathan and Rebecca

May 20th thru May 28th, 2004

Well, this was our second trip to Hedo III, but the first time with The Wild Bunch. To start off, what an awesome time we had!! The first thing I need to comment on is Go Classy Tours, Inc. They are an awesome travel company that I have recommended on several occasions to several of my friends that were looking to go to the Caribbean. To anyone that reads this, what an awesome bunch of people that are linked to The Wild Bunch. We made many friendships that I hope will last a long time. To anyone considering participating in a Wild Bunch function, I highly recommend it! Not only are they a great bunch of people that know how to have fun and party, they also have a huge heart, a perfect example is the school that they are making a special project…simply a great bunch of people…I cannot emphasize this enough!

Regarding the facilities, as in the past year, the facilities are top notch. I appreciate all that the workers do during the day, cutting grass, pruning, etc. It seems that every inch of grounds is raked and picked-up of fallen leaves, cups, glasses, basically whatever was left from the night before. That leaves a very clean appearance. The sand volleyball court and beach areas are raked to remove yesterday’s footprints. The hot tub is drained and cleaned on a regular basis. The pools are always very well maintained and kept clean, again of fallen leaves, waterbugs, or whatever. I do have to say, in my opinion, that the nude pool is much…MUCH smaller than the prude or quad pool. From my observation while walking around, the nude or quad areas, these pools hardly seem to get used, where the nude pool is packed. I know how the complex was designed, I just think it is too bad that the nude and prude pool weren’t in opposite locations…or better yet equal in size. I find the pool table and water tables / chairs in the prude pool are interesting, however again they seem to get little use. I love the swim up bars, the staff is always very professional and quick with service.

Accommodations are very nice! I have never been to Hedo II, so I cannot compare. The first few days of the trip the hot water was lukewarm at best. At first we thought we were missing the hot water due to the other guests using it before us. Once we questioned the staff though they related that the entire building (500 bldg) was having some problems. Maintenance had the problem fixed after the first couple days. Cleaning staff was again very courteous and professional. I feel the lady cleaning our room goes above and beyond with the swan, heart, etc and fresh hibiscus blooms on our bed…a very nice touch!

Staff – with regards to staff, either this year or last, I have not met anyone that is rude or even in a bad mood for that matter. Pretty much anything you ask you get the same reply, “No problem, Mon” with a smile. We Americans are always in a rush, too bad we couldn’t adapt a more “soon come!” attitude. The entertainment staff is fun and getting people involved in all the events they are doing. I was disappointed to learn that Teddy Bear’s contract was not renewed. The wait staff in the dining room is awesome, continually freshening up your drink, no matter if it was from the bar, water, or coffee. Empty plates and dishes are promptly removed from the table.

Food - I feel the food is great! Good taste, good variety, and lots of it, nothing I noticed ever ran out! I like the fact that at any hour of the day you can get something to eat if you want to.

One issue that did concern me, I am a professional firefighter by trade in Florida, I just out of curiosity one day looked into the fire hose reel cabinet closest to my room…there is no way of turning on the water! I then checked the other floors in the 500 Bldg and then the 600 Bldg. I found the same thing…no way to turn on the water! I asked one of the housekeeping staff how the water is turned on and got an “I don’t know” answer! I then asked two maintenance personnel (working on the hot water issue), they also gave me a blank stare and said, “I don’t know”! I know that the buildings are made entirely of concrete, but the potential for a room and contents fire is high…as well as people entrapped. Now if the problem is with pranksters squirting the hoses off, then put the valves behind a small glass window with “break for emergency…alarm will sound” should be used.
